Mission Statement
The mission of Cancer Counseling, Inc. is to assist cancer patients, their families, and friends in coping with the emotional effects of cancer on their lives through no-cost professional counseling and community education.

Elise NeeDell Babcock Schaeper, founder of Cancer Counseling, Inc. in 1982, passed peacefully into the warm embrace of her mother awaiting her in Heaven, on February 1, 2010 at 1:30 am.
Elise will be missed by all who knew and loved her, and by those tens of thousands whose lives she touched. For those who may not have known, Elise founded and was President of the nonprofit Cancer Counseling Inc. in Houston, providing free professional counseling during any stage of the disease, the first such agency of its kind in the nation. She authored When Life Becomes Precious, a practical and powerfully inspiring guide to helping those who have cancer. She was a nationally acclaimed speaker in the business of giving care and caring for those who give, with engagements at Yale, Northwestern and Stanford Medical Schools, the Susan Komen Foundation, the National Cancer Institute, and hospices throughout the country. Elise appeared in radio and television programs across the nation, wrote for WebMD.com and had been quoted in articles appearing in Time, San Francisco Chronicle, Johns Hopkins Newsletter, Modern Outlook, and Healthweek.
More recently, she was pursuing her graduate degree for a Masters of Counseling so that she could return to her great love of helping those in need. She is survived by her father, Bernie, brothers Mark and Tom, her husband, Chris, and Elise's proudest achievement, her daughter Lexi.
For every dark cloud, Elise found silver linings, her victories.

For the past 27 years, Cancer Counseling has made an important difference to people in our community and is the only local charity that is chartered to help 'the families' of people that are diagnosed with cancer through free professional counseling therapy for individuals, groups, and families. CCI serves annually over four thousand people in the Gulf Coast area. CCI recognizes the devastating impact such news has on the family of a cancer patient, and works hard to provide emotional support for those that can not otherwise afford it. CCI's model is to find counselors that will work at a reduced rate and then pay 100% of the ticket to help the families cope with this devastating news. It is hard to calculate CCI's impact, but from client testimonials it is fairly significant.
